Reculver Towers are part of a ruined medieval church at Reculver, built on the site of one of the earliest Roman forts. The imposing towers were built in a remodelling of the church in the 12th century and stand proudly high above Herne Bay, against wind and rain.
Behind them are the evocative remains of the main church building.
The site is managed by English Heritage and is free to access all years round by walking up a fairly steep hill. The path is accessible, but the site itself is not, so those with reduced mobility or wheelchair users may struggle.
It is worth it though as the ruins are so beautiful and make for multiple good photo opportunities from ask the different angles.
We visited after spending time at Herne Bay itself, which was utterly freezing, wet and windy. Somehow, the weather, though still bracing, seemed much better and less cold, up at the Towers and I enjoyed this short visit far more than I had the entire rest of the day!
Doesn’t take long to look round, though this would be a great spot for a picnic on a summer’s day, or an ideal place for an artist to set up their easel. Would also make a great backdrop to wedding photography, or arty / goth shoots.
Sadly, the Roman Fort remains are less impressive; it’s basically now just a field! However, the remains of Richborough Roman Fort are fairly close by, so you can visit those instead!
Parking is available in the local authority run car park at the bottom of the path, which also serves the coastal path and a small play area. You have to pay to use the car park.

这里很快就能逛完，不过这里倒是夏日野餐的好去处，也是艺术家架起画架的理想之地。此外，这里也是拍摄婚纱照或艺术/哥特风格照片的绝佳背景。
可惜的是，罗马堡垒遗址如今已不复存在，基本上只剩下一片田野了！不过，里奇伯勒罗马堡垒的遗址就在附近，您可以去那里看看！
小路尽头是地方政府运营的停车场，这里也服务于沿海步道和一个小型游乐区。停车需要付费。
