点评:The Belfast Store at this Heritage Precinct houses the lovely OCTA Art Gallery
Who knew that quaint Cromwell had such a vibrant art scene in its heritage precinct? Walking into Octa Art Gallery, we were instantly charmed by the old prints of Matisse and Miro, (among many other impressive names in the Post Impressionist line-up), mingling very comfortably with the compelling yet beguiling works of current New Zealand artists. Proprietor, Curator and art educator Chris de Jong himself looks straight out of a Rembrandt painting, startlingly clear eyes brimming with curiosity and learning, his words always measured and well-appointed. We walked away with pieces from both the old and new world artists - a print by Matisse and a bronze sculpture by Paul Deans. Taking with us was this indelible kindness and restraint Chris showed us in this brief exchange we had with him. A masterpiece of a human being.
