点评:I went with five friends on a Sunday morning. One of us had seen the shop on Instagram, while another was interested in purchasing a carpet on our trip to Turkey.
We were met by the owner, Mr. İkman, who was friendly, easy-going, and generous with his time and knowledge. He taught us much about the history, making and culture of Turkish carpets, as well as about himself, his business, and life in Turkey. We had truly relaxed and interesting conversations, even as more customers started to come in, as if this was not a place of business at all.
There was no pressure at any point, but he did find some beautiful choices for my friend. He talked us through them all and gave us plenty of time to consider them. My friends purchased one, and by the end, I purchased another that we were shown, which I had fallen for.
On reflection a week later, I'm still happy with my purchase and have confirmed that it was a good deal versus any similar rugs available at home. We also got to come back and take pictures for free later on.
The other members of staff who helped other customers also seem good, but Mr. İkman is exceptional and turned me from "just going along with my friend" into a happy buyer with no regrets.
For those going for the carpets: remember that you get out what you put in. If you just run around looking at whatever pieces are immediately visible, not speaking to anyone, you'll miss so many beautiful pieces in a range of styles and colours. If you just march in and say "show me red, silk rugs that are 200x120 cm", that's what they'll do. But if you seem interested and make an effort to engage, you'll have a far more rewarding experience.
For those going for photos: bear in mind that this is first and foremost a carpet store. If you try to take free photos when the staff are trying to use that space to display rugs to customers in the light, of course they won't be happy with you. If you're willing to pay for photos, I recommend turning up at a quiet time or booking in advance. During peak times, the staff may be busy and they may be more direct than some cultures are used to, but ultimately, if you treat people with respect and politeness then they will treat you well too.
