点评:Whitecliffs Boulders is about 5km along a narrow, winding, non-tarmac, gravel road from the main road, so make sure to be prepared for that and it pays to drive carefully. Then, there are several gates to open and then shut on the way down the steep track to the carpark. We walked through a field of bulls which was a little disconcerting for one or two in our group. Then it's a very steep further track down to another gate just before you reach the beautiful river. Be sure to turn right here, across the field and then into the forest. And boy is it worth the trip. A magical, ancient-feeling forest. The huge boulders bring an air of uniqueness and mystique about the forest. The forest itself is predominantly native with beautiful totara, matai, miro, and kahikatea as well as native birds such as tui, grey warbler, and fantail. There is also a lovely round table with several chairs so you can relax or have a mini picnic within the mystical setting (but remember to leave nothing but footprints). Bring plenty of water, snacks, a sunhat and sunscreen as the trek back up the hill to the carpark is a steep one (about a 150 metre altitude climb). It is so worth the visit.
