点评:We booked our seats on the trains the day prior at the Tobu Tourist Information Centre at Asakusa Station. The next morning we took the 6.30am express train from Tokyo's Asakusa Station to Kinugawa-onsen Station and then caught a taxi to Edo Wonderland. We would have taken the bus from Kinugawa-onsen Station but it doesn't connect well with the train times and takes 30mins to get to Edo Wonderland. As there are five of us (three teenage boys and two adults) I thought we might have to take two taxis or wait for a larger taxi. We tried to book in advance but were unable to, so we just rocked up to the taxi rank and spoke to the first driver. He gestured us all into his cab - four in the back and one in the front. It was about 5mins to Edo Wonderland, costing 2700yen. With no Japanese (and the driver had no English) we managed to arrange for the driver to come back and collect us in time for us to get the return train we had booked.
Edo Wonderland is a re-creation of a typical Japanese town during the Edo Period - the 250 years before the name was changed to Tokyo. Everything authentically represents village life in the 1600s and 1700s - all of the staff are in appropriate period costume, all of the eateries are typical teahouses of the time, all of the buildings and facilities are authentic. While there are a few English language signs, this is quite out-of-the-way and it's a theme park designed more for the home population so everything is in Japanese, including the shows. We saw the ninja show, geisha show, and the water magic show - all were great and we enjoyed them despite having no Japanese-language knowledge. Everything is exceptionally well choreographed with perfectly-timed sound effects.
We arrived at 9am opening and left about 2pm, which was enough time to look around and enjoy the shows and some activities.
