点评：We planned to arrive at 7:30 am but got lost as there are no signs anywhere advertising how to get here. Luckily I remembered some folks mentioned the Great Smoky Mountains Institute at Tremont in their reviews, so we headed there and arrived closer to 8:00 am. But still no real signs here other than a small human made white sign with blank ink “spruce flat falls” at the start of the trail. There was only one other vehicle in the parking lot then. The hike is definitely more difficult than advertised on GSMNP website because of all the large rocks and large roots not to mention steep hills and a couple switchbacks. I frequently needed to use my two hiking sticks. You’re also surrounded by deep dense forest, so we did see a black bear in the distance. We passed one small group headed out as we headed in but that was it, so we had the falls all to ourselves as we soaked in the gorgeous falls and cool air for 10-15 minutes. We then passed a few other small groups headed in as we headed back, so we were lucky to have no crowd when we went early in the morning.
