点评：We went to Lexington just to tour the horse farms, and Claiborne Farms was our must‑see — and what a place.
This is where Secretariat was born, lived 16 of his 19 years, and is buried, and it’s also where this year’s Kentucky Derby winner, Golden Tempo, was raised.
The farm itself is stunning, filled with magnificent horses that earned far more in stud fees than in the winner’s circle. We got up close with several of them and really felt their quiet, gentle majesty when we stroked their necks.
My wife even hugged a horse valued at $85 million — yes, really! The funniest moment was giving one a peppermint: it took a sip of water, gently sucked on the candy, and then chewed it like a connoisseur.
The visit to Secretariat’s grave was very moving — seeing where this legend rests, alongside other great thoroughbreds such as Riva Ridge and Bold Ruler, puts the whole sport into perspective.
If you have can only time to visit one horse farm in the area, make it Claiborne — but if time allows, try to see a few more.
