点评:Milk Beach is a small, secret Sydney harbour beach, hidden away in the Sydney Harbour National Park. It's one of several tiny but lovely beaches along the Hermitage Foreshore Walking Trail.
The views here are stunning. The beach looks directly across Sydney Harbour towards the city skyline and the Harbour Bridge. It’s a pretty special view to be looking at while you swim.
Despite the misleading name, the water is crystal clear, not cloudy or milky. The name is an historic reference and comes from the early days, when milk was delivered by boat. The milk boat would pull up here on this beach to drop off supplies to nearby Strickland House. Sort of like a colonial version of Ubereats.
The beach itself is maybe only 50 metres long, with a stretch of golden sand and is sheltered by sandstone rock formations at either end. This is a harbour beach, not a surf beach, so the waves are gently lapping. It’s more like swimming in a calm cove or bay.
I can see some reviews that mention broken glass or rubbish but we saw none of this when we were there.
Behind the sand, is a long grassy stretch which is perfect for picnics. There are rock shelves to the right of the beach which are nice areas to stretch out in the sun. If you explore a little, you’ll find a number of small rock pools here.
TIPS:
Be aware that there are no facilities. No lifeguards and no cafe, shop, toilets or change-rooms. You’ll need to bring everything in with you. There is a nearby porta-loo at Strickland House (which sits above the beach) but it was looking pretty grim when we were there so I’d recommend using it only as a last resort. The nearest facilities are at Neilsen Park and Shark Beach where you’ll find a cafe, a kiosk and toilet blocks. Make sure to take sunscreen, hats etc as there’s not much shade.
GETTING THERE:
Access can be tricky. Most people walk in, taking the Hermitage Walking Trail, a stunning bush walk which is well worth doing. Milk Beach is about halfway along, It's about 15 min from Neilsen Park & about 20 min from the Rose Bay end, although parking is much easier at the Neilsen Park end. By public transport from the city, catch a ferry to Rose Bay or a train to Edgecliff Station and then a bus along New South Head Rd towards Vaucluse or Watsons Bay. Jump off at Bayview Hill Rd and walk to the very end (its a few minutes only). Bayview Hill Rd is the one just before the large Gothic looking Kincoppal School. If you pass this on your left, you’ve gone too far so jump off at the next stop and walk back. If walking is not your thing, you can get closer if you park as near as possible to Strickland House (on Carrara Vaucluse Roads) and walk the very short distance down. Entry to the National Park is free.
如果您不喜欢步行,则可以将车停在尽可能靠近 Strickland House(位于 Carrara Vaucluse Roads 上)的地方,然后步行很短的距离。
