A True Rainforest Experience with Heart and Purpose

点评：If you have the chance to spend a day with Mikey at Gavilana Permaculture, do it. One of the most meaningful experiences of our Costa Rica trip.
Before the walk even began, Mikey went above and beyond communicating with us through WhatsApp, making everything incredibly easy and stress free. He was thoughtful, flexible, reasonable, and genuinely invested in making sure we had the best possible experience. Nothing felt transactional. You could feel that this work comes directly from his heart and his passion to help heal both the earth and our relationship with it.
We arranged an immersive walk through a section of primary rainforest that has never been felled. Mikey had just created a new path and we were only the second group to experience it (with 2 adventurous kids in tow no less!). Thankfully, he believed we were capable enough to handle the adventure, which made the experience feel even more special and authentic.
This was not a polished tourist trail. It was a true rainforest experience: green in every direction, on-and-off light rain, steamy humidity, muddy and challenging terrain, and the feeling of being fully immersed in living wilderness. Mikey’s knowledge and reverence for the forest made this feel like more than a hike.
After emerging from the rainforest, we explored Essence Arenal’s organic permaculture farm and learned more about regenerative growing practices and living in reciprocity with the land. We ended by sharing homemade herbal teas with another lovely local and reflecting on everything we had experienced.
The more people who spend a day with Mikey, the better. His work matters, his heart is in the right place, and the experience left us feeling more connected to nature and inspired.
