Prehistoric art, castle and horned helmet
Museo Delle Statue Stele Lunigianesi的点评
点评:Great place to visit when in the area and if into history. These statues menhirs were all found in the area and date back from Copper to the Iron Age, the latest with some Etruscan letters. Probably there might be more waiting to be unearthed or identified (as many buildings and roads were reused with them subsequently), they continue to be a focus of study for scholars.
The museum is located in a wing inside the castle of Piagnaro, a fortress castle strategically located to control the Via Francigena, easy to access with a lift (through a long tunnel inside the mountain that starts in the carpark close to the bridge); can also be accessed, for the adventurous, through cobbled streets by the medieval village after the gate, however need to consider that there are stairs/slopes to climb to the castle with some steep ones. The whole (museum visit and exploring the castle) can be done in an hour.
P.S. The horned helmet was found around 40kms away, not old like the statues menhirs but around 3rd century BC.
