If visiting the Eagle's Nest in Berchtesgaden from anywhere in Germany, be aware of the border crossing through Austria.

点评：Our visit to the Eagle's Nest was enjoyed immensely and well worth it. However, I have an item that I was unaware of before visiting there.
When I rented our car for a week in Bavaria, I was asked if we would be entering any other countries and I answered "no". When I queried Google Maps for directions from our home-base of Garmisch-Partenkirchen to Berchtesgaden, we were routed along the A8 highway, which seemed to make the most sense. However, just before reaching our destination, the A8 crosses into Austria and then there is a turn-off back into Germany. On our return, we used the B20 to reach the A8 while staying in Germany. We were in Austria for only about 15 minutes.
As a result of crossing the border, I received a fine of $179 a month after we returned to the US. The traffic fine was actually 120 Euros, but the car rental company add on their service fee and the exchange rate did the rest.
