点评:The cathedral is enormous, but the space for a congregation is surprisingly small! The exterior architecture is impressive, but so is the interior. Some of the chapels have superb stone work; the statues and the painted retablos in the museum are worth seeing. However, the most impressive for us was the visit to the bell tower. Can only be on a guided tour, (1 hour) which is in Spanish, and is very informative. There is a leaflet in English available for those with no Spanish. Need to book this on line, through the Cathedral’s website. A long flight of 47 ramps, and the second set of ramps are steeper than the first. At the very top there is a stone spiral staircase to access the area around the bells. Our group was a mix of younger men and women who had completed the Murcia marathon at the weekend, “ordinary” folk, plus some of retirement age. There were pauses on the way up, so it was doable for anyone who is reasonably fit! The view over the city, and surroundings were exceptional.
