点评:Whilst a visit to Rome brings the best insight to the Roman world we often overlook those treasures upon our doorstep. Chesters Fort is maybe not so well known across the UK but it provides a splendid picture of a Roman Fort and bathhouse. The on site Clayton Museum displays the findings of its Victorian antiquarian landowner. The display within is presently enhanced by the considerable rare sea shell collection of a family relative, many of the rarer examples were gathered by the 18C explorer Captain Cook. A separate small building offers a range of drinks and cakes and a light lunch offering is available. Access to the fort and bath house is via a grassy walk and access if difficult if wet or for those with mobility issues. Ample parking is available. Entrance and exit are effected via a small shop carrying a range gifts and historic themed toys.
