点评:Based on its presence on YouTube and social media, Farm Tomita is arguably the most famous of the lavender farms in the Furano/Biei region.
It also seems to have become a victim of its own success.
We had been advised to visit first thing in the morning to avoid the largest crowds. Unfortunately, the forecast for the day we had planned to go called for constant rain, so we decided to visit in the late afternoon of the preceding day, when the weather was still reasonably pleasant.
I’m not sure that was the wisest decision.
Even before reaching the farm, we could sense what was coming. The rows of tour buses provided further confirmation.
Quite frankly, it felt like a circus.
People were jostling their way along the paths as if their lives depended on it. What should have been a leisurely stroll through beautiful lavender fields instead became a rather stressful experience.
Even finding a toilet without a long queue proved impossible, which did little to improve our mood.
Eventually, we abandoned both the toilet queue — and any hope of trying the famous lavender soft serve.
The flower fields are undoubtedly beautiful.
But for us, the immense crowds were a price too high to pay.
