点评:Here goes, not everyone's idea of a holiday - we discovered this walk last year on our first visit to Menorca. After a bit of research we soon realised that the "walk" was actually called the Cami de Cavalls or Way of the Horse. A 115 mile hike round the whole of Menorca.
We chose to do it in September when it was fairly dry but quite a bit cooler, mid 20s.
According to various sites, most people do the walk over 2 weeks or so, but not us we planned a 10 day holiday and to do it in 5.5 days.
We arrived at our resort (Son Parc) last Saturday and set off on our adventure on the Sunday morning. Our plan was to do the hardest most remote section of the walk 1st, then, hopefully, chill out about for the rest. The 1st section was 27 mile with nowhere to replenish water etc so we had to carry it all. 5 litres each.
What all the guide book forgot to tell us was how difficult, demanding and tough the terrain can be.
Once we had passed a couple of beaches and pretty villages we were out into the "Ulu" my new word, look it up 😉
We got to our destination for the day at 8 that night, extremely tired. A quick bite to eat and a drink then we found a spot on the local beach to sleep. This was our plan for the whole walk. A new experience for me, you're not allowed to camp here so it was a case of sleeping under the stars.
Day 2 was only 20 miles, again very tough terrain and very hot, mid 30s 🥵
We did manage a swim in one of the many bays, got to our destination at a much better time.
This continued on Tuesday and Wednesday. 20 ish miles each day, hot and tough.
The nights were uncomfortably colder than expected a we experienced a lot of condensation, meaning all our stuff was damp 🙄
Thursday morning arrived and we had had a slightly better night's sleep so we were up and away early. Our plan was for another 20 miles and end with 10 on Friday morning.
We were used to the terrain by now and seemed to be flying, despite disappearing route markers and one set of markers taking us the wrong way! At about 1 in the afternoon we stopped in the beautiful village of Es Grau from tapas and drinks. We had already completed 17 miles and it was here we decided to push on and complete the final leg in one day, so the full 30 miles!
It was scorching hot and exhausting but with the help of a well placed and timely ice-cream van selling fresh lemon slush we made it, getting back at 9 that night.
It was a lot tougher than we thought it was going to be, not just the terrain but the debilitating heat, over 30 degrees every day and I don't do heat 🤣.
