点评:Tall Timbers 4WD guided tour with Rob.
Fantastic full day exploring the beauty of The Tarkine wilderness. Crossing many rumble strips specifically put in at previously identified roadkill spots, to make noise and scare wildlife away from the road traffic. We walked across the Kanunnah bridge viewing the rapids and reflections of the Arthur River. Driving further south to the barren remains of the Murray's Reward copper and tin mining town of Balfour. The "pub" is a sight to see. We walked into the adit of the first found tin mine. Highlight was trek through the ferned track to the old cemetery where only 4 of the 30 graves can be found, in excellent condition, given over 100 yrs old. Rob is a wealth of knowledge with local history, he's 5th generation Tasmanian, proud descendant from convict heritage. Rob has been a big part of reforestation of a mine site and the change in 20 years is extraordinary. Delicious morning tea then onto the coastal route to the most western point of Tassie.
Magnificent spread for lunch at The Edge of the World overlooking the Southern Ocean. Here the Arthur River comes into the ocean and is where the tannin stain from button grass meets the salt water crests. Logs have washed downstream over the years, floated out to sea and washed back onto the beach. Further up the coast we could see from West Point across to Cape Grim and the wind farms. We drove through the sand dunes where we saw shell middens, which are archaeological Aboriginal mounds of discarded shells, bones, etc buried in ashen sand. The healthiest looking dairy and beef cattle you will ever find. Next stop Marrawah beach area and back to Smithton. Fabulous tour, weather, whilst cool, was kind to us and we enjoyed it thoroughly. Thank you Rob and Tall Timbers!

(The Edge of the World)享用了一顿丰盛的午餐,俯瞰着南大洋。 (Tall Timbers)!
