Beautiful Locations and Amazing Boat, but a Disappointing Snorkeling Experience

点评：Kona Coast Snorkel Tour – 2 Stops Including Kealakekua Bay
This tour was just okay for us. There were definitely some highlights, but also several disappointments that would keep us from booking it again.
First, the positives! The boat was absolutely amazing, and we loved the snorkeling locations. The office staff was awesome, and most of the crew was wonderful. Joey, Derek, and Sam were especially great! The young lady on the crew wasn't quite as friendly, but overall, the crew was pleasant. Breakfast and lunch were okay.
Unfortunately, there were a few frustrating aspects of the experience.
Our booking clearly stated that the tour started at 9:00 AM and that we needed to check in by 8:30 AM. However, we didn't actually depart until 9:30 AM, which was a disappointing way to start.
Our biggest issue was the snorkeling equipment policy. Nowhere in our booking information did it state that guests were prohibited from bringing and using their own full-face snorkel masks. We specifically brought our own equipment because it's what we're comfortable using. It wasn't until we were ready to enter the water at the first stop that we were told we couldn't use it.
Unfortunately, the provided equipment was terrible for us. The masks and snorkels leaked constantly, making snorkeling uncomfortable and frustrating. I actually ended up with blisters around my mouth from repeatedly having my lips exposed to salt water. My partner can only comfortably snorkel using a full-face mask, so he wasn't able to snorkel at all during the entire six-hour excursion. He swam at a few stops, but completely missed out on the snorkeling experience we had paid for. Had this restriction been clearly disclosed before booking, we could have made an informed decision.
Another odd part of the experience was the amount of time spent riding around on the boat between our two snorkeling stops. It felt like we spent quite a bit of time cruising without any clear purpose or explanation.
Overall, the boat was fantastic, the locations were beautiful, and several crew members really stood out. However, the equipment issues, lack of advance communication about the mask policy, and the amount of time spent simply riding around made this a fairly average experience for us.
Would we book this tour again? Probably not. It wasn't terrible, but it definitely wasn't the snorkeling experience we were hoping for.
