点评:I like industrial sites and this has been on my list for a while, but I didn't know what to expect. There are modern pit heads and some out buildings, some of which are open and contain machinery and films. The main building is the modern cafe and museum.
It's not immediately obvious where to go, so we started with a drink and cake. I was not impressed that you could hear staff talking in the back, and despite pressing the buzzer twice, took their time about coming out and was then surly. It doesn't do meals, but light snacks and cakes.
We then tackled the museum, which is on the ground floor, and is a walk through of the history of the mine, with films, audio and artefacts and is very well done. There is seating dotted about as well. We then moved upstairs. You can walk up the slope that is decorated with the banners from various pits and arrive at the Pit Men Gallery of paintings done by the miners. There's also a research and archive facility. Toilets are available on both floors.
