点评：On Saturday, June 29, 2024 My wife and myself went on an opal dig with Bob and several other amateur miners. We spent the day from about 10:00 to 3:30 digging in the lava mound for opals. We quickly found white common opal scattered within the dirt. With Bob's encouragement we tried a new area where there was the possibility of finding precious coloured opal. We started digging in this new area and uncovered a rocky seam under the loose dirt. When we swept the rock off we could see shiny dark brown opal along with white opal embedded in the rock. Bob came over and showed us how to chisel the opal from the rock. We took home several pounds of rock which included some very nice pieces of brown crystal opal, some large pieces of white opal and some large chips of rock. Once we got home and brushed off the rocks we found we had several samples of precious coloured opal! Now, how do we free the opal from the rock?
It was a great day except for the black flies! Make sure you have a good insect repellent with you.
