Chirk Castle的点评
点评：In the area to go horse racing so decided to fill a spare day with a visit to Chirk Castle. Plenty of car parking but unfortunately this is a very long way from the castle. Being Blue Badge holders we were able to park in the section of the car parking nearest the entrance but unfortunately there is no smooth path from the car parking to the admission area and beyond until you reach the tarmac road going up to the castle itself. The incline on the road is significant. The website does mention that a volunteer run minibus shuttle may be available on certain days but obviously on busy days the wait for this service could be significant as we have found in the past at other NT properties, in particular Osborne House. Refreshments are available on site and we enjoyed a coffee whilst waiting for the house to open followed by lunch a little later on. Service was provided with a smile and the food was good. The house itself was a disappointment once we got past the first room downstairs with not very many rooms being open. The gardens were well maintained and will no doubt look better later in the season but did provide nice views across the surrounding countryside. On balance we came away feeling that what was provided by the property did not justify the effort needed to walk up to it. By the castle itself there is ample space to provide some Blue Badge parking, especially as there is already vehicular access to it. The minibus is a help but some spinal disabilities make it extremely difficult to stand in queues for any length of time and to twist and turn in tight spaces to access vehicle seats. I accept car parking is not aesthetically pleasing but a small amount aesthetically “masked” BB parking by the castle would, in my opinion, be of great assistance to older less able visitors at this particular site
