点评:Following some of the god reviews we booked a table for dinner but were sadly disappointed by the food. Perhaps we hit a bad day, but then Friday night is not normal the head chef's day off.
The starter of locally grown asparagus was the first disappointment - tasted of nothing, certainly not of asparagus. On the menu it's called by the local name of "grass" which was no surprise, either grown in the wrong soil or more likely over-forced with poor results. As a mains I had the chicken, ham & leek pie. Nothing special and , for £18, with very little chicken in it, It came with a small pot of white sauce that again tasted of absolutley nothing, a bit like flour put into boiling milk. The worst was my wife's main course of salmon wrapped in smoked salmon, which at £32! should have been something really special. A huge slab of salmon (the size of which made me suspicious about its origin and quality) which had not been acidified or seasoned. The centre was undercooked and slimy. The smoked salmon wrapping on the outside was overdone and had lost all flavour. (Tip for the chef: You acidify and season the salmon and cook it through, only then do you wrap the smoked samon around and return it for a few seconds to gently heat!).
A glass of white and a glass of red wine tasted as if the bottles had been open for too long.
Overall a poor, expensive meal. On the positive side, service was friendly and efficient, and we liked the ambience, though we certainly won't come back.
