点评：This is a wholesale and retail flower bazaar that supplies the flowers, saplings, shoots and buds that the city’s residents need for weddings, worshipping, funerals, gifts, and decorating. Located on the Calcutta side at the base of the much photographed Howrah bridge spanning the Hooghly river, the market can be visited throughout the day though it is busiest in the early morning. A visual and aromatic treat, as is typical of the city it is crowded and chaotic - be prepared to jostle, bargain and pay in cash. Situated close by the river bank, you can stroll down one of the many “ghats” to the river and people watch - bathers, worshippers, body builders, idlers - and country boats sailing by on the muddy waters. After checking out the flower shops, climb up the steps to the Howrah bridge and walk on it to the other side - clean and safe sidewalk, pleasing views of the river. The bridge ends at the Howrah railway station. An underground metro rail station there whisks you back to the Calcutta side in a few minutes in air condition comfort for a pittance if a fare.
