点评:My whole experience at the TelefériQo was fantastic. I arrived in the morning and there was already a long line to purchase tickets, but it moved surprisingly quickly. The ride to the top takes about 18 minutes. It was a little intimidating at first with a few dips along the way, but it was absolutely worth it. The views are stunning! Just be prepared—it gets very chilly at the top.
There are a few areas to explore depending on what you’re interested in, and I noticed lots of people brought their dogs along too. I stopped at Cruz Loma for a latte and a cheese ball. They were decent, but there aren’t many food options up there, so it’s probably your best choice if you’re looking for a light snack and coffee.
I honestly couldn’t get enough of the scenery. It was so peaceful just sitting there, taking in the views, and snapping photos. I stayed a little over an hour, which felt like the perfect amount of time for me as a solo traveler. I was also lucky to have beautiful, clear weather.
The only downside was the lack of reliable cell service and Wi-Fi. I ended up using far more of my data plan than expected. After traveling around Quito for a few days, I noticed that public Wi-Fi is very limited. Even when businesses advertise Wi-Fi, access codes often aren’t available or aren’t shared. Coming from the U.S., that was something I wasn’t used to. I asked at several places, including the ticket booth and nearby shops, but no one was able to help. Some businesses could probably attract more customers by offering Wi-Fi with a purchase.
I was actually planning to buy water at the store near the ticket booth, but I was so stressed about not having service that I left instead. As a solo traveler, not being able to access maps or contact anyone made me anxious about getting back to my hostel.
Thankfully, I stopped at the small coffee and bar spot near the taxi and rideshare area at the base of the TelefériQo. I still can’t find it on Google Maps or even figure out its name, but I arrived around 11 a.m., and the gentleman working there, Alejandro, was incredibly kind and helpful. He understood my concerns, was very considerate, and made me an excellent margarita. It was exactly what I needed after a stressful morning.
If you’re visiting the TelefériQo, I highly recommend stopping there for a drink afterward and saying hello to Alejandro. It’s one of those hidden local spots that doesn’t seem to exist on the map but adds so much to the experience. I wish I could have stayed longer, but I was still worried about getting back to my hostel since I was struggling to purchase more mobile data and my phone service remained unreliable.
To make matters worse, I had already had an uncomfortable experience with my Uber driver on the way to the TelefériQo, so my last full day in Quito didn’t start off on the best note. Thankfully, this hidden little spot and Alejandro’s kindness completely turned my day around. It’s a reminder that sometimes the people you meet can leave just as much of an impression as the destination itself.
