Poor signage and wayfinding made for a disappointing disabled visit!
Taronga Western Plains Zoo的点评
点评：We spent a full day at Taronga Western Plains Zoo for my wife's birthday and, accepting that most sensible mammals were hiding from the heat of a 40+degree day, we found the visit rather challenging and overall quite underwhelming!
First up, the Zoo is obviously designed with the mighty motorcar in mind making it generally unsuitable for access on foot, and a virtual impossibility for wheelchairs as traffic of all types share a one--way system with few surfaced footpaths or designated pedestrian zones.
Wayfinding/marking in the Zoo is hopeless, especially across the middle of the site around the "Wild Asia" exhibit and the "interactive map" you can download from the website lets you know where you are but doesn't provide any other information and clearly measures direct, as-the-crow-flies distances, which turns a 300m walk into a 2km hike. A Google maps "KML" overlay would have been epic but I couldn't find one :(
There are plenty of drink vending machines dotted around the site selling expensive spring water in posh "re-useable" aluminum bottles but simple potable water to refill them is not so common, another problem for pedestrians on a 40+ degree day and there were actually more of us than I had imagined possible.
We were guests at the Zoofari Lodge accommodation on site which was excellent so got more than our fair share of giraffe, zebra, white rhino and their African Savannah buddies from the deck of our lodge, we enjoyed the included back-of-house tours and we were really lucky with the whole pride coming to greet us on the "Lion Pride Lands Patrol" but there was no direct link between Zoo and Lodge making the rest of the visit a sweaty grind pushing a wheelchair over loose gravel tracks in the sweltering heat with inadequate hydration :(

我们住在园区内的Zoofari Lodge酒店，酒店很棒，所以我们从酒店的露台上就能看到很多长颈鹿、斑马、白犀牛以及它们在非洲草原上的伙伴们。我们很享受包含在酒店内的幕后参观，而且非常幸运的是，在“狮群巡逻”活动中，整个狮群都来迎接我们。但是动物园和酒店之间没有直接的通道，导致接下来的行程只能在酷暑中推着轮椅在松散的碎石路上艰难跋涉，而且水分严重不足 :(
