The climb up the tower is an adventure in itself. You have to conquer over 200 steps, including a couple of thrilling open-air wooden staircases that sway slightly under your feet. Along the way up, you walk directly underneath and right past the church’s three massive, impressive bells.
Once at the top, the reward is an spectacular, uninterrupted 360-degree panoramic view of Sibiu’s rooftops and surrounding mountains. Fun historical fact: you’ll notice four smaller corner turrets surrounding the main spire—in medieval times, these served as a symbol of Ius Gladii, signaling to visitors that the city council had the authority to enforce city law and sentence criminals to capital punishment.
