Sigiriya + Village tour

点评：I had been to Sigiriya in 2012 and climbed Lions Rock and I wanted to te-visit without doing the climb again. Jinoy was my driver and guide for the day. He was excellent and showed me the best viewing sites for Sigiriya.
He then introduced me to a village tour which cost US$30. It was engaging, authentic and different from the normal experience. It entailed :
1. Ride in a bullcart
2. A trip in a flat bottom boat propelled by canoe, through the wetlands this was very serene and reminded me of the bayous in Louisiana.
3. We then were shown how a typical meal was prepared including obtaining coconut flakes and rice grains. Even for a non cook like me, this was interesting
4. We then ate a local lunch - Dahl curry, rice, potatoes, green beans and nice delicacies for dessert
5. A tuk tuk ride took us back to base
All in all, Jinoy provided an authentic and interesting day out.
On reflection, there is a lot of travelling from Negombo to Sigiriya for the day and I would perhaps recommend that it is more efficient to do this in the context of a 2-3 day trip from Negombo or Colombo. However, in any case the countryside is interesting and the experience is different and authentic . I thoroughly recommend Jinoy as a driver/ guide.
