A brilliant ethical elephant experience. A must do for everyone while in Sri Lanka!
Elephant Freedom Project的点评
点评：What a perfect experience! There are lots of options to spend time with animals in Sri Lanka though not many are ethical. During our trip we only wanted to spend time and money in places that the animals wellbeing is treated as the priority and it was clear right away that The Freedom Project go above and beyond to look after their Elephants.
The girls that work here are amazing, so friendly, welcoming and have so much information which they share during the time you spend with them. There is a big focus on female empowerment and bringing women into the workplace from the local community. One of the girls also told us that they are paid well and looked after as employees.
We got to walk with the elephants, feed them and wash them in the river- the entire time we were reminded that everything is done in a way to allow the elephants to remain safe and comfortable. This was the experience of a lifetime and I only wish more people would spend their money here rather than the surrounding ‘orphanages’ which allow rides and just want to make money (we saw an elephant on our way here that belonged to a different local business and was chained up and distressed - heartbreaking). The lunch included was also delicious!
Such an incredible place that does such important work.
We didn’t know before we went but they also offer many other experiences for volunteers such as cooking classes. We spoke to a lady who was doing that as part of her time at the project and said she was having the time of her life.
