点评:Located a short walk from the hustle and bustle of Orchard Road, Emerald Hill was previously the site of a former nutmeg orchard and was subsequently developed into a fashionable residential abode for the wealthy Chinese and Straits-Chinese merchants. Emerald Hill is one of the few remaining areas in Singapore where you can still see examples of the heritage Peranakan establishments. Work started building the houses in 1900 and most of the first ones you will see date from between 1900 and 1916. As you go further up the hill the later numbered properties, from 53 to 85 for example, were built in the mid-1920s.
There clearly has been a focus in recent years to bring these buildings back to their former glory and several sport Architectural Heritage Award renovation plaques and some even have information boards giving details of the history of the building. It won’t take you long to take a look and they are very photogenic, and you can actually see the inside of those that butt straight onto the pavement. However, whilst you walk up and down doing the tourist thing its worth remembering these are still in use as homes and people live here, although I’m sure they have seen all the usual Insta and TicTok poses by now.
Somerset is the nearest MRT station to visit and Emeral Hill is only a couple of minutes walk from here.

索美塞站是最近的地铁站,从这里步行几分钟就能到翡翠山站。
