点评:My partner and I love visiting Japan’s temples, and Byōdō-in is a wonderful example of why. It brings together gardens, history, and cultural significance in a way that feels deeply satisfying and restorative.
Japan is full of beautiful places like this — locations that somehow manage to retain a sense of peace even as visitors move through them, cameras in hand, searching for the perfect photograph. Byōdō-in does this especially well.
There are indoor areas to explore, but on this visit we chose to stay outside and simply enjoy the setting. We were lucky to visit on a clear, bright day, and the views of the temple reflected across the water were genuinely breathtaking. Standing there, it’s easy to slow your breathing and let the atmosphere do the work.
What stayed with us most was the sense of calm. Despite being a popular destination, it offers a welcome contrast to Kyoto’s retail-heavy areas and busy streets — a place to pause, reflect, and reconnect with the quieter side of the city.
Highly recommended if you value gardens, history, and moments of tranquillity while travelling.
