Romantic weekend away, all amenities included!
Thirty Mile Point Light的点评
点评:We were lucky enough to be able to book the lighthouse for a weekend stay with another couple. Reservations for the lighthouse cottage book up quick so you have to be watchful to see when they open them up so you can get yourself a chance to stay here.
Check in is at 3pm (check out at 11am) at the main gate house / souvenir store (they sell ice and some snacks here too if you need). They verified the guests coming and gave me our 1 room key and 2 parking passes that come with the stay as well as explained how to get to the lighthouse via loop B and where to park and most importantly how ti get ti the private entrance in the far side of the lighthouse.
Parking is directly in front of the main entrance to the lighthouse tour area and was a short walk around the path to the backside of the lighthouse around the carriage house and passed the old outhouse and coal house to a labeled door as a private entrance for lighthouse guests. There were two doors here where the key gives you access and then a small stairway up to the main floor which has a deadbolt on your side (this is an emergency exit through the lighthouse tour side) and then up a couple more flights of stairs to the cottage which has a small entry hall to hang jackets and take off your shoes before you enter the main stay area. You are staying in the assistant lighthouse keepers old quarters whereas the tour are is the main lighthouse keepers quarters! Included with your stay is the tour of the lighthouse which currently runs between 1-4pm daily and includes info about the history of the lighthouse, and a trip to the top to see the working lense and go out on the balcony! It’s only $1 each for anyone not in the group otherwise but is still pretty neat.
The lighthouse cottage has 3 bedrooms, each with a queen sized bed and they provide blankets and pillows but you have to bring your own sheets. Each room had a ceiling fan and an extra fan in the closet for you to use. I found the bed comfortable but one member of our group said it was a rough sleep for them. There were radiators for heat as well as an electric fireplace in the living room but we didn’t need those since it was hot out. There was also a single window ac unit in the living room for keeping things cool. We were there at the end of July and temps were in the mid 80s Fahrenheit and the little ac unit was able to keep things comfortable in the house for us.
There is one bathroom that has a large soaker tub with a shower attachment on it. The shower curtains only cover 3/4 of the tub/shower so it felt a little odd at first but you get used to it. The water pressure was ok and the temp was tricky to figure out, but having your own shower and not having to use the campground showers across the way was very welcome.
The kitchen had a full size fridge and freezer, an electric stove and oven, and plenty of dishes and pots/pans/utensils/ glasses to cook and serve your meals. There are also camp style grills that use charcoal outside if you wanted to grill (someone had left charcoal and lighter fluid in the entryway storage that was free to use but not guaranteed to be there.) The kitchen definitely is a tight space with the big table in it so it was a lot of handing things to people and being in each others way, but made for some great meals!
Other kitchen amenities included a coffee pot (bring filters,) toaster, microwave, and a couple of crock pots.
The views from each bedroom were fantastic with the two eastern bedrooms having the best view of the lake as well as the bathroom and kitchen having great views. We had some really strong wind and rain while there and did experience some slight leaks in the kitchen and the eastern bedroom off the living room but nothing to worry about (literally small drops in a huge rainstorm that flooded parts of surrounding Barker so pretty good). We informed staff and they said they’d look into fixing it asap.
Walking around the campgrounds at night and seeing the beautiful sunsets from the gazebo and the benches was great and made for some amazing photos. Then returning to see the lighthouse beacon on was just a spectacular moment.
Be sure to check out the old foghorn building that is next to the lighthouse and the coast guard tower that has a mini museum in it and some books and puzzles / games to play for any kids or kids at heart. But the true joy is staying in a piece of maritime history.
