A great venue spoilt by poor management and rude staff

点评：This is one of the best Wetherspoons venues you will find anywhere regarding the building and its history but it is completely let down by very poorly trained staff and absolute incompetence in management. My partner and I actually stayed for four hours as we were meeting up after a long break. My first complaint is about the bar staff. One or two are OK but most, mainly the younger ones, never say please or thank you. They just ask who is next, take the order, state the price and then dump the drinks on the bar. No service, no smile, no words. In one area, the Blenheim Room, used dishes were left uncleared for over two hours. In the area we were sat, nobody cleared the glasses or used plates for over four hours. This is completely unacceptable. We both ordered a meal midway through our visit. Mine was just about OK although the portions were very small compared to other venues. It was however lukewarm. My partner's was stone cold even though the plate was warm. I asked for it to be reheated. The surly bartender seemed irritated that I had interrupted his chat with his colleagues. He disappeared with the plate and then brought it back ten minutes later, dumping it on the table without a word- just a frown. Whilst up to seven staff at one time congregated near the fridge/glass washing area, engaged in noisy conversation with one another, just one member of staff was serving. There were literally dozens of uncleared tables meanwhile. The toilets were also dirty and obviously hadn't been checked for some time. It is an absolute shame that such a potentially great venue is let down by ignorant members of staff who are some of the rudest, laziest and most complacent I have come across in the UK.
