点评:I live in the centre of Henley and am a massive supporter of Gabriel Machin whose produce I love and buy regularly. I think that the 3 Tuns is a joint venture between them and the Oarsman team in Marlow (again, a fairly regular haunt). These factors should combine to give a platform for success. Last night - my son’s birthday celebration - was a really poor experience. I applaud those who pride themselves on delivering a small menu with a focus on quality…but you do have to live up to it. We booked well in advance and sat down at 1930. We ordered six main courses and then were amazed to be told in a stream of subsequent messages that one thing after another was unavailable. This quickly became a joke amongst us to predict which of us would be disappointed next…the excuses amounted to ‘ we’ve been so busy over the last few days that we’ve run out’ - not acceptable given the the butcher is literally next door. I am delighted that other diners had been served but where is the planning - we were not walk-ins and relatively early on a Saturday night? Those who were able to get sausages and mash were happy - they were excellent. Our two bottles of wine were good, if somewhat overpriced. My partner’s sea bream was ok. The three steaks were poorly cooked (I had asked for sausage but none available - I went for bavette - then was told they had run out but they could give me sirloin for the same price. I asked for ‘rare’ but it was overdone and tough). Everything other than the aforementioned sausages was over salted to the point of being ruined - I sent mine back. Our bill was reduced after our feedback but my overall feeling is that the ingredients are not respected, the staff not well trained and the kitchen (we sat next to it so could hear) chaotic. I am normally a generous reviewer and a big fan of supporting my local businesses, so this is a difficult piece to write. I won’t be sprinting back.
