A very fine real ale pub
The Rose and Crown Brampton的点评
点评：This is the current local CAMRA branch POTY (pub of the year) and it is not difficult to see why. A very impressive line-up of ten real ales and six craft keg pumps dispensing an excellent variation of beer styles and strengths.
There is a focus on the local Brampton Brewery beers (I believe the pub is owned by them), but with only three on the ale pumps, this left a choice of seven other brewery products, including Everard’s Tiger, due to the Project William tie up.
For our lunchtime visit the three Brampton beers were the Golden Bud, Best Bitter and the stout. Then alongside the Everard’s Tiger were Ashover Three Horseshoes Golden Ale, Kelham Island Easy Rider Blonde Ale, Acorn Gorlovka Imperial Stout, Ossett Brewery World Hop Series France, Three Acre Harvest Gold and Tapped Brew El Camino American Pale Ale. Having a preference for stouts during the winter months, and especially on a dank, drizzling day, I ducked the Acorn Brewery Gorlovka Imperial Stout at 6% and went for the more sensible 4.5% Brampton Brewery Stout as I thought it would be rude not to try one of theirs, and it was perfectly fine.
I wasn’t sure what to make of the interior decor on first entering, clearly clean and modern in one way, but giving an initial feeling that you had stepped back in time to a 1970’s boozer, but I have to say I did warm to the William Morris wall paper and will plan to revisit on a dark evening when there are a few more in than this lunchtime and the lights are on.
But the main attraction here is the impressive beer range which is complemented by the knowledge and friendliness of the team behind the bar. And with several other decent options nearby it makes a bus journey out of Chesterfield to visit almost compulsory.
