We’ve now visited Double Locks twice, so we’ve given it a fair chance. The setting beside the water is lovely. Unfortunately, the service has struggled to keep up with the view.
On our first visit, the food was poor, the queue for the bar was long, and the wait for food was longer. What arrived differed from the menu, but when we asked about it, the staff didn’t seem to understand why that mattered. The manager, a miniature George Michael lookalike, was rude and confrontational. We were hoping for a bit of Careless Whisper; instead, we got careless customer service.
We gave it another go as a family. This time, the roasts were actually quite good. Getting drinks still meant joining a long bar queue, as we couldn’t order them through the app. Then dessert arrived looking different from both the menu description and the same dessert we’d had on our previous visit. Once again, staff seemed uninterested when we raised it. At this point, ordering feels a bit like a lucky dip.
Double Locks has a setting that will keep people coming back, and the roasts show the kitchen can get things right. It’s a shame the slow service, inconsistent food and dismissive response to reasonable questions let it down. Perhaps being so busy has made management a little too relaxed about fixing the basics.
