Wonderful pub experience.
The Masons Arms, Branscombe的点评
点评：Fascinating, historical English pub & restaurant in out of the way Devon village. We arrived and were met by a friendly and helpful bar manager. There was a good selection of local hand-pumped beers. The one that I chose was served in excellent condition and was full pint measure. Unfortunately a full pint in an English pub seems to be a rarity in England these days, but not so in this establishment.
We explained that we had booked a table for three of us but that our daughter was driving down from Berkshire and would be half an hour late. This was not a problem with the chef, although we were due to eat quite late.
We sat in front of a wonderful open fireplace and waited for our daughter.
We moved into the dining area which was comfortably busy even though it was a weekday evening out of season. The menu was varied and there was a card with that evenings specials on it. We ordered, still awaiting our daughter. She finally arrived and ordered a drink while she considered the menu. The staff did not hurry her and she ordered her food.
The food presentation was good and the food was delicious. I think that I probably had the best moules marinierre that I have ever eaten outside Brittany and perhaps the best ever! The sauce was spectacular. My wife and daughter also enjoyed their meals which were sensibly large portions and satisfying.
I was surprised by the bill in a good way. I hadn’t done any mental arithmetic during the meal but the total was less than I was expecting. I checked the till receipt and it was correct!
Well done to all the staff who served us and to the chef and his team for making our evening so enjoyable. I certainly intend to return when we are in the area during the summer.
