点评:Tuesday 9th April and we visited this retail outlet Village. It is located in the Village of Street and stand on the site of the former Clarks shoe factory.
We learnt that in the 19th century Cyrus Clark opened a business in sheepskin rugs. He was joined later by his brother James who introduced who the production of woollen slippers, boots and shoes. The factory closed in the early 1990s.
On the 14th August 1993 Clarks Village Retail Outlet Park opened. A rather unique feature of the Retail Outlet is that it is within the Village of Street, others are normally out of town. It was also the first Outlet Park in the UK.
The Village is home to over 90 designer and high street brands all offering goods at below high street prices.
The outlets are spread out across five areas, Central Square, Orange Terrace, Orchard Square, Apple Court and Pear Court. There is even one of Street's main roads passing through the Village.
There are a wide range of branded clothing stores including Levis, Fat Face, SuperDry, Calvin Klein, Next, Barbour and so many more
There are a number of eateries including Prezzo, Pizza Express andGourmet Burger Kitchen. There are a number of small kiosk dotted around the Village as well as Costa Coffee, Cafe Nero and Pret a Manger
For those with a sweet tooth there are confectionery shops including Lindt, Haribo, Hotel Chocolat and Cadburys.
There are also shoe shops, cookware, home stores, card shops and a variety of other outlets.
Glass covered, arcade style pathways provide shelter from the elements as shoppers move from store to store.
A reminder of the factory's existance is the tall red brick chimney which towers over the Village. Other interesting features to look out for are the Apple Tree Sculpture and the 103 year old oak tree. An additional feature coming to the Retail Outlet is a Shoemaker museum will be opening in 2025.
Unlike most retail parking charges apply here starting at £1.10 an hour. This is not very well advertised, in fact we were walking away from the car, having not paid, until we saw a small sign about paying.
We found the Park to be spacious, well maintained, accessible to all and easy to get around.
Pret a Manger
