Well worth visiting, but some disappointments
Surgeons' Hall Museums的点评
点评:I mostly really enjoyed the Surgeons' Hall Museum - it was fascinating, respectful, clearly laid out, and mostly fairly accessibility-minded. There's a good degree of interactivity, and I found trying out the bits of equipment really interesting. The shop was small but well stocked.
There was nowhere visibly marked as acceptable to drink water, so I had to leave without looking at everything as I needed to take medication with liquid. The lift wasn't able to be called at the top floor (which has a large exhibit on it), but was able to go to the 5th floor, which isn't good in my opinion. There needs to be a system in place to allow people to contact reception from the 5th floor and get them to send the lift up.
It was disappointing to see the book "Dr James Barry: A Woman Ahead of Her Time" on sale in the shop. Dr James Barry was a trans man who lived as a man to his death - he wasn't a woman. I understand respecting differing perspectives, and I understand the delicacy with which historical figures must be handled when they used different terms to describe themselves compared to today, but it was jarring to see.
Overall, very well worth visiting, but if you're physically disabled you can't access a large portion of the museum currently. It's also very loud in parts, so that's something to be aware of in terms of accessibility.
