点评:Our friends said the Paris Versailles bike tour was the best thing they did on their vacation, so we had to book it for our trip. The tour includes train tickets and entry to the Versailles properties. Our Irish guide, Rory, was the best! Not only was he knowledgeable about all the history, he was entertaining, friendly and well-experienced in leading groups with disparate ages and abilities. We met Rory and the group (all fellow Americans) about 9 a.m. at a pre-determined location in Paris, convenient to the underground. Once we received our instructions and overview, we boarded a train to the town of Versailles, where we walked a couple of blocks to the bike store/office. Rory and his team took great care to outfit each tour group member with the appropriate bike. Women's bikes had front baskets, which Rory told us would be used for carrying the food we would buy at the nearby market later. We rode through very little traffic (small-town, nothing scary) to reach the outdoor market. There, we were given about an hour to shop individually for our picnic lunch. Rory offered helpful tips on where to get the best baguette nearby, beverages, restrooms, etc. Once we completed our shopping, we boarded the bikes to begin the ride to the Versailles estate property. By this time, it was starting to drizzle but nothing we couldn't ride through. Once on the property, we made a couple of stops for photo ops and brief self-guided tours through the "accessory" homes on the estate. I wish we had more time for these, especially since the weather turned and began to rain somewhat steadily. Rory pulled out ponchos for us, and we continued biking toward our picnic spot. By the time we reached it, the rain blessedly ended long enough for us to sit on the tarp provided by Rory and eat our market lunches. Just as we finished, the skies opened up again, and we slogged through more rain for a bit. Our last stop before the Versailles palace was a recreated peasant village on the estate. This offered multiple photo ops in a gorgeous setting, which thankfully, coincided with the sun coming out again. Then we biked to the bike shop to leave our wheels and walked a few blocks to the palace for our timed entry. Once at the palace, Rory gave us our return tickets and parted ways with us but only before watching to be sure none of us had trouble entering. While we were disappointed in the palace itself (due to the smothering crowds of tour groups), the bike tour was lovely. Would definitely recommend doing this if you have a day to spare in Paris.
