Prettiest Village in England?

点评：Castle Combe is tiny but it's often said to be the prettiest village in England and it was certainly the prettiest village we visited.
It's all quaint honey-stone cottages with charming lanes, a 13th/14th century church, a medieval market cross in the centre of the village, and a timelessness that comes from the fact that no new buildings have been constructed here since the 1600s. It's so perfect that you feel as if you could have stepped back in time.
We spent about an hour in Castle Combe which was long enough to see everything, and enjoy a gentle stroll across the lawns of the Manor House. However if you only have time to do one thing, make sure you stop by the beautiful old stone bridge that crosses the River Bybrook. It is the most picturesque scene.
Castle Combe can get very crowded in the summer season and it’s tricky getting that perfect photo of the village when there’s a horde of people swarming through the narrow main street and around the bridge.
We went early in the morning. I’d recommend getting here by 9am like we did. Not only were we able to park right in the village but there were only a handful of people when we first arrived and the village felt quiet, peaceful and timeless.
We’d originally planned to stop and have breakfast here but there simply wasn’t anything available or open, even for a coffee. If we’d been planning lunch, there are a few lovely old pubs but none of these were open until a little later in the day.
