点评:We went to the pencil museum in February (admission fee: £11 for 1 adult & 1 child) and had a wonderful time learning about the vibrant history of pencils.
We briefly looking into the reviews, but wanted to… draw… our own conclusions.
For the negative-reviewers out there, you were clearly expecting too much for a museum solely based on pencils, or you just don’t know how to have a good time.
The beginning section: a small replica graphite mine, was a thrilling start, however the mannequins did freak out our dog!
After, you head into the main exhibit where you fill out the quiz that was given to you at the beginning along with a free pencil. The exhibit went into detail about the Secret Pencil of World War II (which were the highlight of the visit) as well as two Guinness World Records: one for the worlds largest pencil, and the other for the fastest marathon dressed as a pencil.
Surprises too: the world’s “rarest” pencil is not what you expect.
In the gift shop, they sell various art supplies, including mock-ups of the Secret Pencils of WW2. Unfortunately, the prices meant that we had to draw the line somewhere.
If you answer all 20 quiz questions correctly you get a prize, which is a nice touch.
Overall, a very enjoyable experience at the Pencil Museum, and a great way to spend an hour. I would highly recommended stopping by if you’re journeying through Keswick.
