点评:We really enjoyed our day in Bach Ma - the scenery is absolutely beautiful and the variety of wildlife was fantastic.
When planning the trip I found it quite confusing, so hopefully the following information will be helpful -
1. Before October 2025 there was a road from the visitors centre to the top of the mountain, with a length of around 19km (with km 0 at the visitors centre and km 19 at the top) - you could take a car up to the top of the mountain. However in October 2025 heavy rains caused a landslide at around km12 which totally destroyed a section of the road making it impassable. There is now a path in the forest which you have to take on foot to bypass the damaged section of road (I estimate it took 15 mins to walk). You rejoin the road after the damaged section and can either start your walk from there or continue on the road as a passenger on a motorbike being driven by one of the park rangers who provide a sort of shuttle service to the top of the mountain. I don’t know when the road is due to be repaired- it doesn’t seem like anything is planned in the short term. We went up (and back) on motorbikes.
2. There are lots of walks possible, of varying degrees of difficulty - I would say that you need to be moderately fit, with decent footwear (at least trainers) in dry season. In wet season I imagine proper walking boots would be better.
3. I think having a guide who knew the walking routes and was able to arrange the motorbike transfers was incredibly helpful - trying to do this trip independently would be difficult. We used VM Travel who were great.
4. I expected fantastic views, and was not disappointed- but I was surprised by the variety and amount of wildlife we saw - huge butterflies, cicada, birds, stick insects and monkeys. Our guide said that in the wet season leeches are sometimes around - so I would recommend long trousers if you are visiting then.
5. There used to be a few restaurants and shops all along the road, but because of the road closure they are all shut. You need to bring your own food and drinks.
A long review - but this is the information that would have helped me when I was trying to plan my travels, so hopefully it will help others.
