点评:Very disappointed with the way I was treated.
I have been a regular at Palm Beach Cardinals games and attend frequently often two or three times a week. I have always enjoyed coming to the games, and I want to make clear that the majority of the staff are friendly, professional, and welcoming. Unfortunately, my recent experience with the General Manager, Amanda, was completely different
While I was near the dugout, Amanda approached me regarding my drink being on the side by the dugout. I would have had absolutely no issue moving it. A simple, “Hey, could you please move your drink?” would have been all it took.
Instead, I was told, “Back up and move your beer”
I explained that it was not a beer. She insisted that it was, told me essentially the same thing again, and then snickered at me. I asked her directly, “Amanda, isn’t there a better way you could have communicated that to me?” Rather than simply acknowledging that she could have handled the situation differently, she continued referring to my drink as a beer and questioning why I had it where I did.
At that point, it wasn’t about moving a drink anymore. It was about the unnecessary attitude and complete lack of professionalism.
I have no problem following rules. If I am told that something needs to be moved, I move it. What I do have a problem with is being spoken to disrespectfully and then having someone insist that something is true after I have told them it isn’t. There was absolutely no reason for the interaction to go the way it did.
I am also a Purple Heart combat veteran and regularly participate in the veteran ticket program. I don’t expect special treatment because of my military service, and I don’t expect anyone to treat me differently because of it. I do, however, expect the same basic courtesy and respect that any paying customer should receive.
Unfortunately, this isn’t the first time I’ve experienced what I consider to be an unacceptable attitude at the stadium.
On another occasion, an usher yelled at my five- and four-year-old children for hanging on a banister. When I addressed the situation with him in front of a supervisor and questioned the tone he used with two very young children, he told me that his tone was “authoritative.” I asked him, “With a five- and four-year-old?” His response was yes.
That is not what I expect when I bring my family to a baseball game.
Again, I want to emphasize that most of the Palm Beach Cardinals staff have been excellent. Unfortunately, the behavior of a few employees can overshadow the positive experiences created by everyone else. There appears to be a small number of employees who seem to forget that fans are customers and should be treated accordingly.
What bothers me most is that I genuinely enjoy coming to these games. I support the team, attend regularly, and have always tried to be respectful and cordial toward the staff. I shouldn’t have to wonder whether I’m going to be spoken to disrespectfully simply because someone could have communicated a basic request in a better way.
I will be sharing my experiences with the veteran organizations I work with so they are aware of what happened and can make their own decisions about recommending or participating in events at the stadium.
Hopefully, someone in the organization takes this feedback seriously. Fans shouldn’t have to accept disrespectful treatment as the price of attending a baseball game.
