点评:This iconic, steel , cantilever bridge, completed in 1890 after 8 years of construction, is a true marvel of Victorian engineering. It was designed by Sir John Fowler, and Sir Benjamin Baker, and when it first opened it had the world’s longest spans between the 3 double cantilevers , each 330 ft high. It’s 2.5 km long , and is now the world’s 2nd longest cantilever span bridge , and considered one of the wonders of the industrial world. In 2015 it was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and is also proudly considered a symbol of Scotland . For close up views , visits to both both North Queensferry & South Queensferry will afford you them, or Forth boat trips. However, personally speaking , nothing beats the excitement of crossing it by train, where you can see the enormous red-painted structures up close , with excellent views of the picturesque Firth of Forth and the boats sailing upon it. It just never gets old.
