点评:The most important and prominent feature on Parliament Hill is the Peace Tower both in terms of its central location and its height. For Americans, it is the Capitol Dome and for the British it is Big Ben. It is a clock tower and campanile that stands 302.5 feet (92.2 meters) tall. While it dominates the legislative center today, it was not original to the building or plans. The tower was a renovation addition during the Center Block rebuild after the 1916 fire. While the original tower honored the British monarch at the time of construction, this tower would honor all of those Canadians who had served in WWI which was a highpoint of Canadian sacrifice. It is prominently portrayed and displayed throughout the country, including on Canadian currency. Currently, it and the entire Center Block are undergoing renovation construction. However, when opened, people were able to climb the tower for great views of the city. It was the tallest building in Ottawa from its completion in 1922 to 1971 with the building of the 29 story Place de Ville in downtown Ottawa. We had the chance to see it day and night and it is a special place.
