点评:‘Nutcote’, the house of the much-loved Australian children's author and illustrator, May Gibbs, was a nice little point of interest on the Bondi - Manly Walking Trail. We passed right by it as we walked through Neutral Bay.
Unknown outside Australia, May Gibbs is well known by all Australian children as the creator the gum nut babies, Snugglepot & Cuddlepie. Most Australian kids have grown up on these stories although, having recently re-read some, one has to admit that they are very old-fashioned now.
We had planned to visit the house but unfortunately we’d started that leg of the walk early in the morning and neither the house nor the cafe were open that early. Opening hours are limited to 11am - 3pm, Wednesday to Sunday.
All we could do was have a quick look at the garden and plan to come back another day when we could do the house tour.
NOTE: There’s not much street parking in this area so it’s easier to do a combination of public transport and/or walking to get here.
