Interesting small Museum, preserving the Island's nutmeg culture
Grenada Co-Operative Nutmeg Association的点评
点评:Friday 17th January this was another of the attractions that we visited on our all day Jamboulay Tour of the island.
Our bus pulled up outside this Museum which is located along Diamond Street in Victoria.
The aim of the Museum is to preserve the Island's nutmeg culture. We learnt that, surprisingly, Grenada is World's second highest producer of nutmeg and a major contributor to the Island's economy.
We were met at the entrance by a Guide who led us around the Museum explaining the process. It starts when the ripe nuts are delivered to the factory by the farmer.
The nutmeg and mace were separated then the nuts are air dried for six to eight weeks, while the mace is sun-dried.
Once dried the nuts are taken to the manual cracking and extraction section.
We were walked around the remaining stages up to bagging and dispatching.
As we walked around we were shown the processes, tools and implements used in the production of nutmeg.
At the end of the guided tour we ended up in a small sales are where we could purchase goods make with nutmeg including cakes, sausages, sauces, beverages and ice cream.
