点评:My husband and I enjoyed a private tour (the rest of the group didn't show up :)) today with the fabulous Julia, who made it so special. I really had no clue what we were in for---I read about it in the Union-Tribune--and then it couldn't have been lovelier! We were welcomed so warmly, and given ample time to explore the beautiful displays between sections of the tour, which gave us insight into what the GIA does for students and the public, as well as a greater understanding of where gems come from and how they become jewelry. Oh, and the displays! Must be seen to be believed in some cases--absolutely stunning art pieces as well as gasp-worthy examples of processed minerals and gems and raw materials, too. Honestly, it was a treat start to finish! And free! I have been a San Diegan for decades, and never knew I could do this. I recommend it to anyone who is interested in science, art, beauty and just knowing an incredible attraction of San Diego! Many thanks to Julia and the gracious staff of the GIA for making us feel so welcome.
