点评:A group visit to this ancient part of the town in the shoulder season, before the packed tourist invasions during the hot summer months. Nevertheless there were crowds there admiring the bridge and the old town.
The bridge is quite small and steep. Surface cobblestones and built in stone ridges every few feet across the width (to enable carts and animals to cross & 'brake') make for difficult and slippery progress as all the surface has been polished by countless shoes
o ver the years. Fortunately the sun was shining and it was dry underfoot; even so the handrails were useful.
The bridge rises to around 18 m from the cold green river waters and young men continue to jump from the jumping platform...aided by contributions from spectators
The nearby lanes of the Old Town are packed with souvenir shops, cafes and eateries: all very touristy but atmospheric and friendly.
Really glad we went but it must be hellishly crowded on Summer. Apparently it becomes SO crowded that it is almost impossible to cross over this iconic landmark.
