点评：This area contains the tombs of craftsmen who created the Royal Tombs in the valley of the Kings. These are painted rather than carved and while some repeat imagery seen in Royal Tombs, there are many references to everyday life. The tombs are noteworthy because the colours remain so vivid and remain in good condition.
The area is walkable from the central ticket office where you purchase tickets. It takes about 25 minutes. They can only be purchased at the central ticket office not at the site itself although you can buy them online and there is a QR code that can be used where tickets are checked.
Currently there are three tombs open with the standard ticket, all located within a short distance from each other. TT1 Sennedjem, TT359 Inherkhau and a triple tomb with one entrance TT218 Amennakht, TT219 Nebenmaat and TT220 Khaemterii. You can buy an extra ticket for Pashedu at the ticket office for 120 which is worth the modest extra cost, probably the best of all the workers tombs currently open. With this tomb, you will be taken up the hill by a guard who has the keys to the tomb (about a five minute walk).
All the other tombs are worth a visit although the third tomb in the triple access entrance, Khaemterii is perhaps less well preserved. The styles all look quite different but the imagery is every bit as good as in the Valley of the Kings.
One thing not to miss before leaving is to walk beyond the actual workers village to the Temple of El Medina. This 2nd century BC temple was later converted to a Coptic monastery. From the outside, it looks a ruin, but it is very well preserved inside with three outstanding chambers full of carvings and colour including the central chamber dedicated to Hathor. In terms of small intimate chambers, it was better than anything we saw at Karnak the previous day.
