The spice shop on the main drag (there’s a YouTube review of it) sells absolutely fake merchandise and will swindle you. It seemed the guy I was dealing with pickpocketed me in addition to the fake merchandise as well and our tour guide found out and had him return it. There’s a room full of cameras screens around the corner next to the bathroom.
The saffron on the table seemed legitimate but he pulled down a jar and filled a bag with a different version. The peppercorns were almost certainly fake but worth a dice roll in case they were the freshest known to man.
The saffron turned out to be shredded, dyed, and sprayed papyrus I believe and the peppercorns were all dyed black pepper. Who knows what they were using to dye it.
When you start showing interest they’ll start filling bags up as much as they can in an attempt to hustle you for more than what you want - don’t feel obligated to buy, that’s what they want. They think because they filled the bag they have the upper hand, but remember: they already filled the bag.
There are a few legitimate items but between being stolen from and sold fake merchandise, steer clear of the spice shop!
